Losing Streak.

So, last night I got drunk at the club and (very stupidly) lost my camera and my phone. I’m really proud of myself, because I’m taking this as a big life lesson, and instead of freaking out about losing $700 worth of electronics, I’m looking at the upside.

01. My phone was the free base model that came with my T-Mobile plan when I got it a long time ago. It was clunky and had no features whatsoever. When I called to suspend the line, they told me I could go on the website and get a free or discounted upgrade.

02. The camera was a gift, albeit an expensive one, so I didn’t spend any money on it. The only hard-earned money I personally lost was the almost-$200 memory card I bought for it.

So, anyway, I have a question. I can get a free phone upgrade or I can get a RAZR ($100) or a Sidekick II ($150). What should I do, what should I do? I could go cheapo and get a basic black camera phone. I think I’m more likely to get a Sidekick than a RAZR if I spend money. I mean, the RAZR is pretty much a glorified, pretty camera phone. The Sidekick is overly trendy and Paris Hilton-esque, but I think it’s fun and I like the ease of texting. I don’t know.

What would you pick?

UPDATE: I just ordered the Sidekick. If anyone wants to donate to my camera fund, let me know. It sucks. Majorly.

Alito, Check On It!

I check my news everyday from iWon. I know, it’s a dubious source with its lottery and sweepstakes theme, but I’m shameless (I also read gossip at E! Online) and it just gathers the AP stories like anyone else.

Imagine my surprise when I clicked on a story about Supreme Court Justice-wannabe Samuel Alito. Now, I’m as against this undercover-rightie as any self-respecting liberal, but matching him up with someone’s mugshot is pretty out-there even for my tastes. Coincidence? Maybe…

Click above and embrace your inner drag-queen with Beyonce. She almost looks as feminine as RuPaul in her new music video. (Almost.)

Dean & DeLuca.

I start at my new job, Dean & DeLuca, on Monday. So, it’s another cafe, and I didn’t really want to do food service anymore, but I’m fine with this because of a few reasons.

1. It’s more pretentious so the crowd won’t be as annoying and ghetto as that of the Lower East Side.
2. I only have to take the L train, instead of the L and the F.
3. When opening at Starbucks, I had to wake up at 3:30AM to catch a late-night L and get to work at 5AM. If I open at D&D, I get to wake up at 5AM to get to work at 6AM.
4. When closing at Starbucks, I either got out at midnight (weekdays) or 2AM (weekends), both putting me in the time zone for late-night train scheduling again. D&D always closes at 10PM, I get out at 11PM, and the L is right down the street.

Hell, yeah. No more train drama. My commute is 20 minutes now instead of 45 (over an hour late nights).

I’m really excited to get 30% off groceries now. Maybe I can get real food instead of just Ramen noodles and deli sandwiches. My location is just a cafe, but there are full-blown stores with wine, deli food, sushi, kitchenware…everything.

When I grew up in Charlotte, we had a few Dean & DeLuca locations. When I saw them in New York, I thought it was a nation-wide chain, but it turns out Charlotte is one of the only other cities to have stores (NYC is the home of the company). Weird. I never think of Charlotte as a real city. If you have never heard of the company and want to check it out, visit the website. It’s a pretty fancy-schmancy company.

I waited for caps of the Colin Farrell sex tape for so long. Well, isn’t this disappointing.
