I worked at the premiere for Shortbus Thursday night. And by work, I mean walk around in my underwear and a tank top around one shoulder, listen to John Cameron Mitchell sing ‘Wig in a Box,’ watch Parker Posey and Rufus Wainwright and Michael Stipe, and drink a lot of alcohol (this new caffeinated stuff called PINK). My picture was put up on Fleshbot, but everyone was taking pictures, so maybe I’ll have more soon. – My radio show started today. There were a few minor glitches, but nothing you wouldn’t expect from a first-timer, and it was great besides that. Make sure you listen live next Thursday at 10AM because I will have a great band in the studio called Paper or Plastic. I’ll have an archive MP3 and podcast URL next week after the show, as well. filed under: misc | comments: 3 comments |
Score one for me. I learned recently that I have secured a two-hour show on WBAR, Barnard College radio. It will be Tuesday mornings from 8-10AM, with live streams and archives at WBAR.org. I will also, in keeping with the concept of making this site more portalized, find a way to integrate them into my blog, as well as exploring options with podcasting. I’m going to be playing a lot of queer-themed music, and also a lot of just plain fun indie and rock acts. Expect lots of PJ Harvey, Bjork, Magnetic Fields, Sleater-Kinney, The Gossip, The Knife, et cetera. I’m also securing some phone interviews and in-studio performances, and there will be a request line. It’s going to be really fun. So, starting next week, you can hear me live Tuesday mornings, or check it out afterwards for an archival stream. I’ll try to gather more details on the archives as soon as possible. UPDATE: The show is now 10AM-noon. Rock and roll! School has been eating me alive. I’m going to post more when these first few weeks give way to a sense of calm, but the adjustment has been a little rough. It’s mostly because I’ve been going to a million meetings a week in order to figure out which clubs I want to try out this semester/year. I’ve settled on WBAR, a few Spectator (the school newspaper) sections, and hopefully volunteer work with the Gay Health Advocacy Project, providing pre-HIV test counseling for gay men on campus. I’m also looking into the Columbia ACLU chapter and some food/shelter outreach programs for New York’s poor. Yeah, I’m a little overextended, but don’t worry. It’s not in a way that’s affecting my studies. I’m doing pretty well in my classes so far, I think; I’m actively participating in discussions and not making an ass out of myself. My first English paper had no negative remarks from my teacher, and I’m absorbing my history class like a sponge because I find it so fascinating. filed under: misc | comments: 4 comments |
And so begin the revisionist efforts. Like so many great modern institutions before it–Washington Square Park, Reader’s Digest, and Ashlee’s nose among them–scott anthony dot org will be undergoing a massive restructuring in the coming weeks. No, the aesthetic difference will be as drastic as that of the younger Simpson sister, but I do hope to make this blog, heretofore mostly relegated to silly personal anecdotes and Myspace-compliant pictures, into something of greater substance. This is not to say I’m over myself; on the contrary, I’m just as, if not more, vain and neurotic as before. I would just like to balance out that narcissism with complementary content in an effort to make a more fulfilling, cohesive site. Look for more media–music, video clips, pictures–as well as added pieces I will be writing for the Spectator, Columbia’s daily newspaper. Of course, there will still be waxing mishaps and boredom-induced rants aplenty, but I’d like to bring a little more to the table. filed under: misc | comments: 2 comments |
The day finally arrived. I started classes this morning. I was a stress case all day, trying to find all of my classes and get situated. I applied for Student Council. I find out about that tomorrow. I don’t really feel like blogging anymore. filed under: misc | comments: 5 comments |
