Score one for me. I learned recently that I have secured a two-hour show on WBAR, Barnard College radio. It will be Tuesday mornings from 8-10AM, with live streams and archives at WBAR.org. I will also, in keeping with the concept of making this site more portalized, find a way to integrate them into my blog, as well as exploring options with podcasting. I’m going to be playing a lot of queer-themed music, and also a lot of just plain fun indie and rock acts. Expect lots of PJ Harvey, Bjork, Magnetic Fields, Sleater-Kinney, The Gossip, The Knife, et cetera. I’m also securing some phone interviews and in-studio performances, and there will be a request line. It’s going to be really fun. So, starting next week, you can hear me live Tuesday mornings, or check it out afterwards for an archival stream. I’ll try to gather more details on the archives as soon as possible. UPDATE: The show is now 10AM-noon. Rock and roll! School has been eating me alive. I’m going to post more when these first few weeks give way to a sense of calm, but the adjustment has been a little rough. It’s mostly because I’ve been going to a million meetings a week in order to figure out which clubs I want to try out this semester/year. I’ve settled on WBAR, a few Spectator (the school newspaper) sections, and hopefully volunteer work with the Gay Health Advocacy Project, providing pre-HIV test counseling for gay men on campus. I’m also looking into the Columbia ACLU chapter and some food/shelter outreach programs for New York’s poor. Yeah, I’m a little overextended, but don’t worry. It’s not in a way that’s affecting my studies. I’m doing pretty well in my classes so far, I think; I’m actively participating in discussions and not making an ass out of myself. My first English paper had no negative remarks from my teacher, and I’m absorbing my history class like a sponge because I find it so fascinating. filed under: misc | comments: Leave a commentLine and paragraph breaks automatic, e-mail address never displayed, HTML allowed:

it’s great that the history stuff is exciting you. any class that excites the brain is one you will do well in
as the the rest, good! just don’t overextend yourself on the clubs and stuff. next semester is plenty of time to join more, once you’ve done a sensible assessment of what you can handle.
good luck with the show!
