Glasses.

Do we like these? I’m debating on whether to buy lenses for them. I think I like them.

Shortbus.

“A group of New Yorkers caught up in their romantic-sexual milieu converge at an underground salon infamous for its blend of art, music, politics, and carnality.”

This is how John Cameron Mitchell’s film Shortbus is described in a tagline on the Internet Movie Database; the reviews and previews from various sources promise a movie that is shocking in its numerous unsimulated sex scenes. The first time I heard of the project was when my friends Hunter and Damon told me–forgive the poor paraphrasing–”Hey, we’re going to be extras in John Cameron Mitchell’s new film! …Yeah, we’re having sex on-screen as part of a big orgy.” I was pretty shocked, but as time passed and the film was delayed again and again, I have to admit the whole thing faded to the back of my mind, brought back sporadically by certain discussions, such as the one I had on Myspace with singer-songwriter (and one of the stars of the movie) Jay Brannan, who filmed a scene during which he sang the “Star-Spangled Banner” while sucking a huge cock.

From what I hear, the movie was partly–or more than partly–based on the CineSalon parties thrown weekly by the fabulous Stephen Kent Jusick, starting in 2001 and continuing three years onward. Those parties preceded my move to New York, but the event came back in full-force last night and it was my privilege to be in attendance this time. Sarit Michaeli, the other force responsible for the CineSalon behemoth, came back to New York for two weeks from Tel Aviv, and she picked a fabulous Greatest Hits screening of queer and political (and politically queer) films.

It was a beautiful evening. There were a few bad apples there, moochers and ingrates, but for the most part it was a very communal experience, people being very friendly, sharing food and good conversation. Almost everyone was very free-spirited and interesting, full of stories and love. Two of the filmmakers were in attendance, and the Q&A sessions were insightful.

As for the sex, it wasn’t wall-to-wall nudity and craziness, but I do know that the night stretched into morning with six naked bodies entangled in an orgasmic heap. No Shortbus, but it was an interesting way to see the night end, an homage to the days of the famous salons, and a specter of hope that they will return.

Can you wait?

There’s a problem sometimes when you live the New York dream, getting all the free booze, drugs, and boys you want on a nightly basis.

Sometimes you end up home at 7AM wondering where your wallet went and why you can’t stop licking your lips.

I had a really inspirational and amazing hour-long conversation with a straight guy walking from Avenue A to 8th Avenue waiting for the L to come back up.

There are pros and cons to each situation in life.

Mostly, I just hate coming home when the sun’s up.

Everything else is beautiful.

I have so many pictures to post from this weekend. They’ll have to wait.

UPDATE: Found the wallet. Loving life again.

Travis and Heidi.

For the second week in a row, a routine on So You Think You Can Dance really, really moved me. And it’s so funny, if you asked me what I thought about this show a month ago, I would laugh. It’s a Fox reality show. But look at this. Mia Michaels is a genius.

Allison and Ivan.

A few entries back, I mentioned how I watched a performance on So You Think You Can Dance? that gave me chills and made me examine myself as a writer because it was so beautiful to see people excel at their art.

It loses a lot chopped down to YouTube size, but it’s still amazing. Allison is brilliant; her complete control and fluidity are breathtaking to behold, and Ivan has improved from being an awkward white boy to something so much more. He could only ever do hip hop, and he totally broke down all of his barriers to transform himself into a lyrical dancer.

It was just perfect.

i'm scott anthony. most people know me as a decently cool character. i fix macs all day. i like a lot of things; i'm sure you do, too. shared interests are fine, but i actually make much more fulfilling friendships with people completely different than me. i can easily become a stress case. i love and value people who mellow me out more than anything else. i love new york. i love vibrancy. i love being pulled away from what i supposed was my birthright: my unerring sense of rationality. in fact, as time goes by, i get more and more joy out of the beauty in disarray. if you love life and truly live, i love you and want to know you.
