Danny and I had a movie binge this weekend. Last night, we went to the Landmark Sunshine on Houston, a great theatre that I really should go to more often. I’ve been there to see Tarnation but I think that is the only time. We saw Sketches of Frank Gehry, a Sydney Pollack documentary about the famous architect. If you ever want to be inspired by art, check this film out. It will make you want to create. While you may not come up with anything as mind-blowing as the Guggenheim Bilbao or the Disney Concert Hall, I’m sure you’ll be all the better for it. I can’t wait for the DVD. We then went straight into The King, a new movie starring Gael Garcia Bernal and William Hurt. Bernal plays a man recently out of the Navy who seeks out his father (Hurt). It’s hard to really say anything about the plot without giving away the sick twists. It’s really twisted. The performances are all fantastic, but the movie just leaves you creeped out–you know, in a good way. Finally, this afternoon we watched Postcards from the Edge, a movie about the dysfunctional relationship between a B-list actress (Meryl Streep) and her more famous mother (Shirley Maclaine). I’m on a quest to see every Meryl Streep movie ever made, so of course I was excited to see her tear into another role, this one being a drug addict on the brink of relapse. It was especially nice to see her sing, something she does surprisingly well; I think that she’s really an alien sent to Earth to make everyone else feel inadequate. (Search “meryl postcards” on YouTube to see those musical performances.) I’ll be back for another marathon at the Sunshine this weekend probably. There are two movies I need to see. Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth, opening Wednesday, is supposed to be a frightening look at the inevitable effects of global warming unless we act fast (seeing Florida and Manhattan sinking under water within 20 years during the trailer was a little disturbing). And I also need to see Guiliani Time, a Michael Moore-esque indictment of “America’s Mayor.” – Desperate Housewives is getting to be too much. – By the way, my tattoo appointment was delayed until June 1st; that’s why I haven’t mentioned it. Soon, soon. filed under: misc | comments: Leave a commentLine and paragraph breaks automatic, e-mail address never displayed, HTML allowed:

i’ve never liked meryl streep as an actor much…
about the only movie i enjoyed her in was Adaptations (cool movie, if you haven’t seen it yet). i have no idea why it is i don’t enjoy her, cos i know she is a damn fine actor; it is just a weird kind of irrational gut reaction.
hope everything is still going smoothly with you getting urself sorted out for a smooth transition into college.
all the best!

Ok…
Mr. ohhhhhBANGBANG, I am almost sure you were the nutjob (I say this in the most delicious of ways) that was working the door to Boysroom when I visited NYC in June/July of 2005. Correct me if I am wrong…?
The two biggest impacts I had in clubbing on that trip were running into your sexy, snarky self and gushing over and over to JonJon two nights in a row about how is music is yummy.
Thanks for being an impactful memory in a big city.
Best wishes at Columbia!
p.s. My boyfriend hated you.
